What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that offers access to books, articles, and DVDs that are not available in the collection at Proctor Library. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to request an item(s) for use. ILL requests are submitted to libraries around the United States willing to loan these items from their collections.

Who may use ILL?

Current students, faculty, and staff of Flagler College may use the Interlibrary Loan service.

What is the ILL process?

First, complete the Interlibrary Loan Request form to request an item(s). You will receive a confirmation email upon submission of your form.

Your request will then be forwarded to libraries across the United States that possess the requested item(s) in their collections. These libraries have the opportunity to fulfill your request. If any issues arise during the fulfillment process, a member of the Proctor Library staff will contact you.

Monitor your email inbox. If you requested an article or chapter from a book, a PDF file will be sent to you. For requests involving books or DVDs, the physical copy will be dispatched to the library. Once ready for pickup at the Circulation Desk, you will receive an email notification from the library.

How much does it cost to order an ILL?

There is no fee to order an ILL. However, please be aware that each ILL request costs the Library time in processing and searching, postage, and lending fees. Please use the privilege wisely and only for materials you actually intend to use.

Can I borrow textbooks or eBooks through ILL?

No, libraries do not lend textbooks or eBooks through ILL.

Responsibility for lost or overdue ILL books

Please be aware: by checking out an Interlibrary Loan item you are taking responsibility for any fines and fees that may accompany a late return or lost item. Overdue Interlibrary Loan items may accrue fines. If you fail to return an Interlibrary Loan item you will be responsible for replacement costs and processing fees. If you ever anticipate being unable to meet a due date, please contact us at (904) 819-6206 or circulation@flagler.edu in advance of the due date. Interlibrary Loan items are considered higher-priority items as they are not owned by the Proctor Library. Their timely return is vital to the success of the ILL operation.

How long will it take to receive an item through ILL?

Physical items, such as a book or DVD, could take up to two weeks. (Keep in the mind that the request must be filled by a library and the item will then need to be mailed.) Articles should be delivered electronically within 48 hours.

When is an ILL item due?

The due date of an ILL item depends on the loan policy of the library that is lending it. The due date is written on the front of the ILL item or in your library account online.
